Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) is a crisis prevention and intervention model for professionals in the fields of education, special education, child care, crisis management, counseling and social work. TCI assists professionals and organizations/programs in preventing crises from occurring, de-escalating crises, managing physical acting-out behavior, reducing potential injury to youth and staff, and teaching youth positive coping skills. This 5-day workshop provides organizations, programs, and professionals with a specific framework for implementing crisis prevention and management systems that reduce the need to rely solely on high-risk and ineffective behavioral interventions. TCI is oriented towards offering staff the tools necessary to support children and youth in learning the developmentally appropriate and constructive ways in managing their feelings and their resulting behaviors.
The primary goals of TCI are to:
1) reduce or eliminate the need of physical interventions with children and youth
2) provide professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary which allow them to become catalysts through which youth can change destructive behavior patterns
3) assist professionals in supporting youth to develop self-supportive responses to their environments and circumstances
4) support children and youth in achieving higher levels of social and emotional maturity.
*Participants receive certification in PBF, TCI or LSCI upon successful completion of all evaluations including written, practical, and/or physical assessments. Participants who attend all workshop sessions and demonstrate mastery through formal assessment of the necessary skills in each technique will be awarded official certificates at the conclusion of the workshop period.
